NDIS SIL commissioning - a critically important market stewardship discussion

DSX acknowledges that the Government has not yet decided whether to go down the path of a commissioned panel of SIL providers, but the fact that it has been floated as an option, makes us very nervous. Nervous because there may be significant, harmful unintended consequences if a flawed panel design ends up being the new reality for Australia's 37,000 participants.

SIL Commissioning = significantly reduced choice and increased risk of harm for participants

The Government wants to significantly reduce the number of NDIS providers able to offer 24/7 supported independent living. Constraining participant choice in this way would be a return to the bad old days. Better regulation of SIL providers is however essential. We call on all SIL providers who engage in client capture (and there are many) to stop doing so. Both the Disability Royal Commission and the NDIS Review recommended an end to this harmful practice.

NDIS Provider Search is live

Frustrated with the (poor) quality of NDIS provider directories? We have built a provider directory that changes the game. We invited a group of 12 NDIS participants and carers to participate in a (paid) research workshop, and in total they identified 29 different weaknesses with NDIS provider directories that they had used. We used that to design a new NDIS provider directory.
