Accessibility Statement

Our Accessibility Commitment

The Disability Services Exchange (DSX) wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people with disability. Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the current W3C Recommendation (also published as ISO/IEC 40500:2025). The site partially meets this standard. A review on 30 October 2026 found issues that we are fixing. They are listed under Known Issues below.

Vision Accessibility

Text alternatives for images, a colour contrast target of 4.5:1 for normal text, and pages that work with browser zoom and reflow at 320 pixels wide. Screen-reader testing by a person is planned.

Keyboard Navigation

A skip link to the main content, visible focus on the controls we tested, and no keyboard traps. Some parts are still hard to use with a keyboard (see Known Issues).

Cognitive Support

Consistent navigation, Easy Read pages, and the Avatar, which can answer at three reading levels: Easiest, Easier and Standard.

Hearing Support

Captions and transcripts for the videos on our Partners page. No audio plays automatically.

WCAG 2.2 Level AA: What We Aim For

These are the WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements we work to. The site partially meets them today. Where we know something does not work yet, we say so here and under Known Issues.

Perceivable

  • Text Alternatives: Images should have text alternatives
  • Time-based Media: The videos on our Partners page have captions and transcripts
  • Adaptable: Pages use headings and landmarks so their structure is clear
  • Distinguishable: Text contrast of at least 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text). Some text is still below this and is being fixed
  • Reflow: Pages work at 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways, except the Easy Read cards
  • Audio Control: No audio plays automatically

Operable

  • Keyboard Accessible: Everything should work with a keyboard. Some parts do not yet (see Known Issues)
  • No Keyboard Traps: Our testing found no keyboard traps
  • Skip Link: A skip link lets you jump straight to the main content
  • Seizure Safe: No content flashes more than 3 times per second
  • Navigation: More than one way to find pages, with headings and labels
  • Focus Visible: Keyboard focus was visible on every control our testing reached
  • Target Size: At least 24×24 CSS pixels, the WCAG 2.2 minimum

Understandable

  • Readable: Easy Read pages and Avatar reading levels (Easiest, Easier and Standard). Some pages, including this one and our legal pages, are still hard to read
  • Predictable: Consistent navigation across pages
  • Input Assistance: Clear error messages on forms. The contact and Report a Bug forms need work (see Known Issues)
  • Help Available: Contact details on our Contact page, and the Avatar on every page

Robust

  • Name, Role, Value: Controls should have correct names and roles. Some do not yet, including the Report a Bug form
  • Status Messages: Should be announced to screen readers. Several are not yet, including Easy Read, the provider directory, FAQ and glossary search, and the contact form
  • JavaScript: The site needs JavaScript. Search, the contact form, Easy Read pages and the mobile menu do not work without it

Known Issues & Development

About Our Development

The DSX platform has been developed by people with disabilities employing innovative AI techniques to ensure genuine accessibility from the ground up. Our development team includes individuals with lived experience of disability who understand firsthand the importance of accessible digital services.

We are working to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the whole site. We use AI-assisted development and testing to help find and fix accessibility barriers.

We welcome your feedback! If you encounter any accessibility issues, please report them immediately so we can rectify them. Your input helps us create a more inclusive platform for everyone.

Current Accessibility Status

Review on 30 October 2026: automated checks found few problems on most pages. Keyboard and screen-reader checks found the issues below. We are fixing them.

Known Issues (Being Fixed)

• Report a Bug form: labels are not linked to fields, files cannot be attached with a keyboard, some text is low contrast, and success or error messages are not announced

• Contact form: error messages are not announced to screen readers, and keyboard focus is lost after you send

• Easy Read pages: the "Make text bigger" and "High contrast" buttons do not work properly, and some cards cannot be chosen with the Space keyWorkaround: use your browser zoom (Ctrl and + on Windows, Cmd and + on Mac) to make text bigger

• Provider directory: when you change page or the results change, screen readers are not told, and keyboard focus can be lost

• Low-contrast text: some text is below the 4.5:1 target, including faded provider cards and some profile notes
